Seasonal Pool Option

In 2026 the Recreation District is proposing a seasonal pool to replace the R.C. Icabone Swimming Pool.  Through work initiated by several citizens, a new outdoor pool could be constucted at the site of the former pool..

Based on a modern design by todays standards, it would include two bodies of water. This allows for more flexible programming, differing water temperatures to better serve all users, easier access for people of all ages with zero-entry and ramps, allows for swimming to still occur when there is an accident, and would serve the majority of the community.   This is how a majority of commercial public pools are designed today with a goal of constructing a 50+ year facility.  (By comparision the average residential and private pool has a life expectancy of 20 years.)  It will be sized to serve our community's population.

Below are some of the features that could be potentially included  based on the 2024 Feasibility Study.  However, this is a concept and the final design would go through a public process where citizens will have an opportunity to participate and provide feedback.

Leisure Pool:

  • Zero-Depth Children's Play Area
  • Interactive Play Structure
  • Current Channel with Water Features
  • Waterslides with Runouts
  • Potential Add ons: Underwater Bench Seating, Lap Lanes

Lap Pool:

  • 6 Lane x 25 Yard Lap Pool
  • 1 Meter Diving Board
  • Aqua Zip'n Feature
  • Climbing Wall
  • Basketball/Volleyball
  • ADA Accessible Ramp
  • Potential Add ons:  Ninjacross, Inflatables

Other Features:

  • Bathhouse with Male and Female Lockerooms/Bathrooms
  • Family Changing Rooms/Bathrooms
  • Concessions Stand
  • Shaded Seating Areas
  • Lounge Chairs
  • Parking Lot

Below is a concept from the 2024 Feasibility Study showing what it could look like.

Financial Information on this concept:

  • The Recreation District would use the existing .3% pool sales tax to both construct the facility and operate it.  The tax is scheduled to sunset on December 31, 2050 or when the bonds for construction are paid off, whichever comes first.
  • The cost to construct would range from $16-$18 million based on other recent projects in Colorado and cost escalation.
  • The operational subsidy for a facility similar to this would be around $250,000, and include capital repair and replacement.
  • Over a period of 30-years the estimated cost to repair and replace pool equipment will be around $3 million which would come from funding through the operational subsidy.
